with a six part racing series to see who is the > best of the best in open ocean speed sailing. Last year, over 80 people > participated in this event and organizers are expecting an even better turn > out. "This format is truly easy to participate in and really improves your > sailing", said Marc Lefebvre, series event director. "The even kinda takes the > fear out of sailing fast, off the wind, over chop and swell." Navman has once > again chosen the Maui Speed Challenge Series as a venue to demonstrate their > reliable product once again. The unit being used this year is the same as last > years event which proved to be quite reliable and accurate stood up in the > harsh conditions. > > With last years speed pushing the limit ever close to 40kts, there are hopes > that this barrier is broken at the event, which in open ocean sailing, is quite > a feet. Queuing up this year is 2 time world record holder Erik Beale who also > will be presenting a speed clinic preceding the event on July 7. More details > to follow on that. Also, set to return to the event is former world champion > Alex Aguera and speed aficionado Jacque Pauvert, who was one of the fastest > sailors on the course. Other sailors include Robby Naish, Peter Bijl, and > Micah Buzanis, to name a few. We are truly looking forward to seeing who shows > up on any given weekend.
