RE: Need help on picking a board for my weight!

I think the board should reflect what and how you want to ride..if you have any thought about that yet.

As your very first board I'd recommend you to get something big, floaty, VERY used and super cheap..one of those dinged up starboards or something like that.... There should be quite a lot on the market.
This will shorten the time you spend in the water going downwind...a big board (I am talking about boards that are NO fun at all to ride after you can upwind...

Then depending on what you want to do with it....check out the Thorn for freestyle, and SOL for freeride. Both boards are kick ass. I changed my Underground for a thorn and have not looked back.

The sol has more of a loose feel to it and is better in chop, but not as good for free style...in my opinion...though there are plenty of good riders here using it...

The Thorn has mad pop a really precise feel to it. By far my favorite freestyleboard....

There is a very nice overview on the Naish site for sizes for weight...

Good shit, Tony!!!

I got out there around 11:30, but left after 5 minutes (there was pretty much no wind)... Met Tucker up with Tucker at his place, then headed out to Stevenson. Not great there either, but workable. Glad you guys got out though. Riding tomorrow?

Got there about 2:30 ish....Wind was pretty light but still coming from the N-NW and wind slightly increasing...Started riding about 3:30 ish.....something like that...
We could have gotten a longer session by possibly doing your typical Suavies down winder but that would mean you would have to walk up the bank with your kite in the air - for sure you would cross paths with the fishermen - potentially pissing them off...But those 45 minutes of riding (when the wind picked up for a solid 1 hour) was pretty fun....We were just stoked to be out in the water...

Thinking about kiting the Gorge tomorrow....Forcast calls for sunny skies and breezy conditions....

OK Fellas, the ice has been broken.... Wink
It wasn't much but Ceasar and myself, were able to bust out a good 45 minute session in the water @ Sauvies this afternoon....Over all, a pretty light day....But when ever the Zar and myself get together, the winds gods generally send us a puff or two....so for about a good hour, the winds were solid - give or take 15 mph with a few white caps....It was crazy but strong enough to ride on the machine 17.5....no slug fest....we made damn sure we were able to ride up wind - otherwise the fisherman would have our heads...no shit - We were definetly out numbered...Something like 50 fishermen and 2 of us... Shocked
We kepted it cool and got out of there way.
Water was great...4/3 with no booties and no gloves or hoodie....
But I admit, the water was still a little on the chill side.
The beach is clean....no logs or kite traps....
Here's a couple of pics...Sorry for the crappy resolution-
Was such in a hurry to take pics that I forgot to set my camera to high resolution....
Anyways, so I'm thinking April 14 was the 1st day @ Sauvies

PKH (Phil)....Show me the money...!
Very Happy

(Adam-kataku homie...) Dude, I had my new Mystic warrior....That harness is sick...I highly recommend it...well worth the casholas....Fits perfect.... Very Happy
