Kite School Survey - 2006/06/12 02:10
to kite center,
I am a student in, International Tourism Management and Consultancy, doing an important research project about Kiteboarding for Bonaire, in the Caribbean. Your contribution can be of great help.
Kiteboarding is the fastest growing watersport all over the world. It encounters many problems, however, concerning safety, environment and opposition from people, politicians and other types of water-recreation. This is now very much the case in Bonaire.
In the end, the results will be used to try to convince the government of Bonaire, and some NGO's, that Kiteboarding is a serious sport and deserves a fixed and better location that ensures growth opportunities.
For this I need to look at the development/ evolution of Kiteboarding in some important and popular Kiteboard destinations, such as yours. This will form an important example for Bonaire.
I was hoping you could provide me with some information.
1. When did you start giving Kiteboard lessons?
2. How many lessons each year? Or, how much growth have you experienced since you started?
2.5 Who are the students? Age, country (more or less).
3. How many rentals each year?
4. Did you have a lot of opposition when you started? From who? How did you solve this? How long did this take? Or still now?
5. I need to calculate the size of the size of the (total) Dutch and North American Kiteboard market (number of kiters) as well. Do you have any figures that support this? Or seen a research/report that shows this?
These figures are important because it will show how much the island of can benefit from Bonaire Kiteboarding economically, and how the sport can be practiced in safety and harmony with other water/ land users.
If you do not have/ or can not find any of the information, do you maybe have a suggestion where I can find it?
Thank you very much for your help.
