Re:Used Kites for Sale on the www. - 2007/11/19 22:16 Re: Buying Used kites on the WWW.
Buying kites unseen, has always had its inherent risks. So a better way of buying used equipment has been needed for a long time. Many sellers of used gear have turned to the internet to sell their gear. The internet offers the ability to post pictures of the equipment and to open a dialogue between the seller and the buyer. There are some solutions that offer a safer and user friendly way of buying used gear that gives some assurance to the buyer, and takes away some of the anxiety and risk,
eBay is one, good solution. What it offers is a forum where the potential buyer can see the track record of the seller, by seeing their rating based on positive feedbacks (higher is better). Buyers also have some of the protection of the eBay policies. Many sellers offer return policies, and by using PayPal you do not share your credit card information with anyone (other than PayPal).
Ebay offers the seller the opportunity to sell the item in an auction, or as a buy now price. Auctions can last up to 10days. Many businesses now use Ebay stores to sell off their discounted merchandise, last years gear, or demo models. Ebay has the advantage of having a large community of potential buyers and an open format that allows an exchange of information between buyers and sellers. The buyers and sellers may be in totally different countries, using different currencies, (and may have the opposite summer season) The benefits of this globalized market, is obvious.
In addition we have found that there is still a market for older equipment at the right price. This gives a value to your older gear that is just sitting around. Then if you can get some money for it will help you to upgrade to new gear. Using Ebay has some costs associated with it, which are passed on seller. And the buyers have to jump through a few hoops to get their account set up. All in all it has given a boost to the used gear market and given gear buyers and sellers some great options.
There is also some new services spinning off in the image of eBay that are directed to the kiteboarder. These relatively new services may appeal to the niche markets like kiteboarding. An example of one of these newer niche services is www.kiteauctions.com which is just getting off the ground. Check it out for yourself, and if you have any other good kite selling sites, please write a reply to this post, so we can all see them.
Happy Kite selling,
David
