Tips for launching a Bow kite. - 2006/06/22 03:25 LAUNCHING TIPS FOR BOW KITES
When launching a bow kite for the first time you should disengage the over-ride stopper ball, so that it is loose, and the bar can slide freely. This will give you instant ability to depower the kite at any kite angle.
the bow kite's bar will have no "pivot" point like a c-kite bar. So you will need to center your flying hand more on the bar, if you are launching one-handed. You should practice flying the bow kite with one hand. You will find that you will need more wrist power to steer the kite.
Keep some tension on the lines by pulling slightly on the bar. Try to not let the lines go slack!
If the kite flies too far forward in the window, you can breifly "blip" the bar (pull it slightly). this will increase the angle, and it will also increase the kite's drag, and pull it back toward the power zone.
A common mistake is to oversheet the kite. This will cause the kite to "stall" and fly backwards. Don't do this!
If you see the kite starting to fall backwards in the window (stalling), push the bar away from you, sheeting out the kite and then it will fly forward again.
You must be hooked into the trim-loop to fly the kite one-handed.
take care not to let the trim-loop fall out of the hook while launching, because you will lose control of the kite, and it usually loops beachward.
Happy riding,
David Dorn.
