research for a paper on high-growth extreme sports - 2007/02/20 17:41
Hello members of the USKA,
My name is Michael Chen, I am a student at Duke University. I'm doing research for a paper on high-growth extreme sports, and I would like to include kiteboarding in it. Last summer on a trip to California, I saw a bunch of kites in the sky at the beach and thought it looked awesome! Since this is such a new sport, there isn't really a lot of data or industry numbers on kiteboarding. Does the USKA have any general numbers on the size and growth of the industry? If not, would you be able to direct me to a reliable source (ie someone I can cite in a bibliography)? The type of information that would be great are things like - how many kiteboarders there are today, versus a year or two ago - how many people stay with kiteboarding vs. how many quit for whatever reason - how many kiteboarders there are abroad (France, brazil, etc.) I would like to argue something along the lines that kiteboarding is definitely not a "fad" based on what I've been reading on it, and will probably grow similarly to snowboarding. Thank you for any help you would be able to provide me, I really appreciate it. Have a great day! Thanks, Michael Chen [michael.chen@alumni.duke.edu]
